How we got here
St James Glen Iris, 4th Grade premiers
This is the oldest team photograph the club holds. Bernie Monaghan captained; Graeme Plumb, John Henderson, Ross Sutherland and Stuart King are on it too, and all five later took life membership.
St James and Malvern Valley merge
St James joined Malvern Valley, formerly St Andrews East Malvern, in 1995, and the two first fielded a side together in 1995/96. Every career record the club keeps starts here.
3rd XI premiership
The club's first recorded flag under the merged name. Daniel Pryor, who came up through the club's own junior sides, was in it, and in the next one as well.
3rd XI premiership, again
Ian Harris captained this one, four seasons after Jason Liddell first brought him down to the club. Somewhere along the way he took seven for ten.
The old competition folds
The Southern District Churches Association wound up. The club crossed to the Eastern Cricket Association, where it has played every season since.
A clubhouse that looks over both grounds
Written up at the time as “a brand new clubhouse that looks out over the two grounds”. Two ovals side by side: the club's old home fixtures list them as Basil 1 and Basil 2.
Two grand finals in one season
The 2nd XI and the 4th XI both made the last Saturday. The 2nds lost theirs by twelve runs.
A handover, and two coaches
Nathaniel Symes took over as president at the July AGM; Ian Harris stayed on as junior vice-president. Rohan Best and Alex Kerr arrived to coach, both straight off a national title with Victoria.
1st XI win the Shaw Shield
“It’s been a few years in the making,” the club wrote on 15 March 2020. Matt Pryor captained the side that took the Eastern Cricket Association premiership.
4th XI win by one run
The ECA LOC 9 premiership, decided by a single run, with Sam Marsh captaining.
Two senior XIs, juniors on the way
The club fielded four senior sides through 2019/20 and fields two now, with juniors and a women's side being built from names on a list.
